A mini-bowling boom has begun to strike in India. The Blu-O brand of bowling centers opened its first location in Gurgaon, India, on Tuesday under a new deal with the Thailand-based entertainment giant Major Cinemas and PVR Ltd, a multiplex chain headquartered in India.

The new joint venture will find PVR holding a 51 percent stake in the Blu-O bowling brand. Under the deal, 150-200 more lanes are planned in the next three years in other Indian cities.

"This is another step toward our continuous efforts to evolve PVR from a filmed entertainment company to a retail entertainment player to enhance the out-of-home entertainment experience for our patrons," said Ajay Bijli, PVR Chairman.

Added Major Cineplex CEO Somkit Tantadvanichkul, "With the vast experience of operating bowling and allied entertainment activities that we possess, along with PVR's understanding of Indian consumers, we have created an outstanding product."
